Nozincwadi – Mother of Books

Gcina Mhlophe travels through rural Africa, visiting poor schools and kindergartens or understocked libraries. Faced with empty shelves, she gives away boxes full of donated books. Thus she promotes education. Her message: “If I have made in life, you certainly can succeed too!”
On her tour I accompanied Gcina, shooting video material and stills. The short documentary about her passionate involvement came out of nothing, because there was no adequate budget, no location manager and certainly no real production … but there was a small budget from the UNESCO and donations from private donors. There was my wife Gcina, our little daughter Khwezi and me. There were also dear people around us, and above all there was the happiness of the children of Africa and their fantastic music ...
Enjoy the movie…
The project is named after my wife's aunt, who passed away without ever learning to read, yet left behind a whole suitcase full of collected newspaper clippings and other printed material.
