Kafka's Castle

Art at The End of a Civil War!

For me “The Castle" (Das Schloss) is one of the most beautiful novels of Kafka and world literature. I find it equally funny and true. Embodying my heroe, Franz Kafka's land surveyor „K“, was a challenge and a gift. Also my short-film “Immer zum Licht” was shot at that time.

The ancient culture of Georgia was a dream come true - despite the lack of gas and hot water, despite periodic power cuts, despite a night curfew and despite a civil war with nightly shootings that hardly had passed ... Despite all of this, we somehow created art, and so the 120-minute picture of "Ziche Simagre" was accomplished.

Enjoy the movie…

I had a telegram in the mail by Dato Janelidse: “Come to Tblissi-STOP-Take along "The Castle" by Kafka-STOP-We will make a movie-STOP.” This was the beginning of a wounderful time and a true friendship.
